A kitchen is not complete without a backsplash. Besides lending a character and design to the kitchen, backsplash protects the walls from spills and other dirt. It is necessary to select the backsplash tile so that it looks terrific; giving the kitchen a more homey and warmer look. There are varying materials for backsplash, but it is gravely important to choose one that does not get damaged or dirty easily with constant abuse. A polished surface is perfect because dirt and grease do not absorb into the material, and are easy to wipe clean with a damp, soapy cloth.
Some tile materials absorb moisture easily, and they are poor candidates for backsplash. Those that get easily dirty with the least oil spill are likewise a big no for the project. travertine tile is one of the well-loved backsplash materials because it is hard-wearing, water-resistant and oil-resistant, not to mention endures extreme temperatures. Now, the space in between the tile needs to be filled with grout in order to keep them in place and to create a smooth, even finish. The color of travertine can vary, so it is always a must to choose grout color that matches well of the travertine color. And to make sure that the surface is even and looks great, grout should be applied properly. Both tile and grout must work together to create a fine-looking finish to the backsplash, and to make the backsplash functional. Unless the two are properly selected and applied, the backsplash is of no use at all.
