On March 11, 2004, COMCARE and the Emergency Interoperability Consortium sponsored an all-day event to discuss the importance of interoperability in emergency communications. The day began with a workshop on innovative approaches to interoperable data communications for emergency response.

Dr. Jack Potter (far left) and Matt Walton (far right), accepted the Governor's Citation award from the State of Maryland representatives, John Contestabile (center, left) and Dr. Robert Bass (center, right), for outstanding work in development and deployment of life saving communications technologies on behalf of COMCARE and EIC.
The workshop was followed by an exciting Congressional reception in the Rayburn Foyer of the Rayburn House Office.

Over twenty organizations and companies exhibited their contributions to interoperability throughout the evening.
Attendees gathered for the reception and technology demonstration that was presented in conjunction with the Homeland Security Caucus and Caucus Co-Chairmen Congressman Curt Weldon and Congressman Norm Dicks.
During the technology demonstration, member companies of COMCARE and the Emergency Interoperability Consortium participated in live demonstrations of data interoperability, transmitting emergency messages using XML data sets across and to multiple, independent platforms and applications. Hundreds of guests attended the Congressional Reception and Technology Demonstration in the Rayburn Foyer. As a co-chair for the Congressional Homeland Security Caucus, Congressman Curt Weldon was able to share some valuable insight regarding the importance of interoperability in today's environment.
